Growing Out of Rexburg and the News of our Life

We are counting down until our time here in Rexburg is over. It is a little bitter sweet. We are sad about leaving the good atmosphere of this area, and have loved the experiences we've enjoyed and friends we've had while attending school. However, we are definitely excited about being done with our undergraduate work and are excited for the next chapter of our lives, and a warmer climate!

We are also growing out of our apartment here. Our LITTLE one bedroom is full to the brim of all of our things, and Hayden's little crib is obviously too little for him. This is how I found him this morning...



Dax is sad about the thought of not being able to play sports in the same way ever again. His team won their game last night and plays in the championship game tonight! The really bad news is that Dax got a concussion last night and can't play in the game tonight. His teammate threw the ball up for him to dunk it, and he got undercut and landed on his upper back and head. My heart nearly stopped when I saw him go down...I can't remember the last time I was so scared. He couldn't remember what happened, and he kept asking the same questions over and over. The two main questions were "where is Hayden?" and "Are finals coming up soon?" You can tell the two things that were on his mind! He couldn't remember that I dropped him off at the game, what time his game started, or how far his team was in the playoffs. We went to the doctor to get him checked out, luckily the CT scan was fine (I was so worried, considering the actress that just died from bleeding on the brain due to a concussion). We didn't get home until nearly 1 o'clock (his game started at 10), and unfortunately we'll have a nice ER bill because we couldn't have gone anywhere else. He was supposed to take a major test today, but obviously that didn't happen. I'm just glad he's alright, but I can't tell you how bummed he is about not being able to play in the game.

Hayden is just finishing up a nebulizer treatment...every 4 hours for 2 weeks. It hasn't been the easiest, but it seems to have helped his cough, so we're hoping for the best. I'm thinking he just has allergies and until we leave Rexburg and the weather warms up he's going to have a little bit of a cough, but hopefully it is much better from here on out.



We've enjoyed some unpredictable MARCH MADNESS as well. We've probably watched a little too many games, but otherwise we don't watch much tv so I don't feel too bad. Hayden and Dax were particularly exhausted after some late night games...



In good news...I bought a jogging stroller for my graduation present! I got it used from someone in Rexburg, but I got a good deal on it, and it is a nice stroller. It is a baby jogger Q series and it is in great condition. They run for about $250+ online. Hooray!!

Cavity Free!

Dax and I went to the dentist today and we have no cavities! We've been putting off going to the dentist because we are poor and have no dental insurance, so it's been 2 years since we've been in to the dentist. The hygienists complimented us on our nice teeth, which is always nice. My hygienist told me that she can tell that I floss every day because of the condition that my gums and tissues are in. So don't lie to the hygienist when she asks you if you floss...because they can tell! The best news? I had 3 teeth in the front of my mouth (2 on the top, 1 on the bottom) that have felt rough for years, and I just thought it was something I had done wrong and that they were going to be that way for life. Come to find out...I had ortho-cement on my teeth, on there from when I had my braces 6 YEARS AGO! Apparently it is really hard to see because it looks just like teeth, but no other dentist has ever caught it before. I even asked the last dentist I went to about the roughness on my teeth, and he didn't even look at them, he just told me some lame reason why they might be that way. Anyway, they got it all off and now my teeth are all as slick and smooth as ever! I keep going over them with my tongue, it feels so good. That made my day!!!

THE CONTEST

So Dax and I colored Easter eggs the other day, but of course we couldn't do it without making it into a competition. This is where ALL OF YOU come in. We decided that we couldn't very well be the judges of our own competition because we would be biased for our own eggs. So below are the pictures of the eggs with their names or description. Don't be deceived about who decorated what eggs...you'd be surprised. Anyway, just post a comment voting for your 3 most favorite eggs in order. We also request that if you are married you get your spouse (or kids) to vote as well because we need an even balance of male and female voters to get an accurate assessment of our handy work! Note that the ugliest eggs are probably the ones we started with first...don't judge them too harshly. :) Also note that I gave them all their names, don't try and figure out which eggs are whose according to name. A Tale of Twos

Since our last post, our events seemed to have happened revolving around the number 2:

Two day trip: We made a quick trip to Utah. We left Thursday morning and came back on Saturday morning. BYU had a grad school thing for the mechanical engineers that we attended. Thursday they had a reception to meet the faculty and then a dinner and speakers in the evening. Afterward we went to my sister Nicole's house and hung out with my family. Ben and his wife Rachel, Krystal and her husband Ben, Nicole, Josh and his son Ozkar, Paul, and Dax and I were able to be there (6 of 10!). It was so good to see everyone! Dax spent an hour driving around looking for her house (he stayed at the dinner longer than I did) because he didn't have a cell phone, but we were glad that he finally did make it. Friday I just hung out with my sister Kim's family while Dax did graduate school things and hung out with his brother Kase and watched my brothers Paul and Ben in an intramural football game. That evening we played games and hung out with most of the family as well. It was a short trip, but we were grateful to see everyone...half of them hadn't seen Hayden before!

Two new nephews: My sister Shandiin had a baby on March 6th, and named him Dalston Raun. Dax's sister Makala had a baby boy early on the 8th and named him Hyrum Barrow. I'm not sure about the spellings on those, but everyone seems healthy and we are glad that Hayden will have some nephews to play with! My sister Kimberly is also expecting, but is on bed rest right now for some hemorrhages that we hope heal up soon (as does she)! Dax's sister Taneil is also having a baby in just over a month!

Two basketball games: Dax's team has a basketball game every weekend. They are now 7-0! It is so fun to watch him play. His brother Vard is usually able to come which is nice. Yesterday our friends Tyson and Sarah were able to come as well, and we were so glad! I just need to be better about taking pictures of the games...I always take the camera and seem to forget until there is about 2 minutes left in the game.



Two blowouts: Hayden didn't have a bowel movement our entire trip, and decided to unload it all this morning and afternoon. We were about to leave for stake conference when I decided to check him and it was already all the way up his back. Nothing to do except throw him in the tub. At least he kept the rest of it in until we made it home from stake conference. :) The sad thing is it always seems to be in the cute clothes that his Grandma Wells bought him for Christmas. I'm hoping that with enough soaking and the right agents that it will all come out.



Two tests: Dax had two major tests as well. He doesn't feel too great about them, but I'm hoping that he's just saying that so it will be all the more wonderful when we find out how he really did. I'm hopeful that he did better than he says and he's just being modest.

Two injuries: Our apartment is rather small, and yesterday morning I was trying to maneuver around the table to sit in the glider and hit my knee hard on the hinge that sticks out of our table. I haven't hurt my knee in a long time and forgot how much of a toll it takes on you when it really hurts. That same day I was helping Hayden sit up and he lunged forward to grab a toy and hit his head on the ottoman of our glider. It was the first bruise that he's had, but luckily he heals fast and it is nearly gone.

Other than that we are doing well and hoping to find an internship opportunity for the summer time. The hard thing is that we get out so much sooner than other schools, so companies don't start really looking seriously at interns until we're already out, and we need a plan! Hayden is getting so big, he's so chubby and long. He loves rolling from his back to his stomach and has learned to squeal with delight at the top of his lungs (which he does frequently). He also loves to stick his tongue out, as you can see from the picture. We enjoy watching him learn and grow, he is getting so fun.
